SummaStream

Privacy Policy

This page describes how the SummaStream website handles the content you submit for processing and the information that passes through the service.

Our approach to privacy

SummaStream has no accounts or profiles, so there is no store of personal information attached to you. What you submit is content to be processed, and the way we handle it is described below. This page describes what the service actually does — it does not overstate it.

Information you submit

You choose what to process: an audio or video file, a document, a URL, or pasted text. That content is transmitted to the server running the service so it can be transcribed and summarized. Because there is no account, there is no profile for it to be attached to.

Uploaded files and submitted content

Uploaded files are read into the server's memory for the duration of processing and are then released. They are never written to disk as a permanent copy and are never served from a public URL. Temporary files created during audio extraction are deleted as soon as extraction finishes, even when it fails.

The recording itself is not kept once processing is done — what survives is the transcript and the summary, held so you can read and export them.

How long results are kept

Transcripts and summaries are held in the server's memory so you can read them. They are dropped one hour after they are created, or immediately when you press Delete on the results page. Restarting the server clears everything, because nothing is persisted.

AI and speech-to-text providers

To produce a transcript and a summary, your input is sent to the transcription and summarization providers that operate this deployment. Their own data-handling and retention policies apply to the content they receive. For a YouTube link, the video’s public caption transcript is sent to the transcript provider, and the resulting text is sent to the summarization provider. We cannot make promises on behalf of these third parties.

Logs and security information

Error messages are logged by type only — never the audio, the transcript, the text you submitted, or your credentials. The host operating the site may keep standard server logs, which commonly record things such as IP addresses, request times and the pages requested. Rate limiting is applied per client address to protect the service.

Cookies and local storage

The site stores your light or dark theme choice in your browser's local storage so the preference survives between visits. The site itself sets no advertising trackers or analytics cookies. The page loads the Inter typeface from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's servers to fetch the stylesheet and font files; Google's own privacy policy applies to those requests.

Security

Files are validated by their actual contents, links are checked against private-network addresses before anything is fetched, and credentials are read only on the server and never logged or returned to the browser. Content is handled in memory and released as soon as it is no longer needed.

Your choices

You control what you submit: only process content you are permitted to share. Any result can be deleted immediately from its results page, before the automatic one-hour expiry. If you have questions about this policy or want to request deletion of a result, contact us at contact@summastream.com.

Changes to this policy

If the service changes the way it handles information, this page will be updated to describe the new behaviour — the version published here always describes the current behaviour of the service.
